Bertha Ochieng is Professor of Integrated Health and Social Care at De Montfort University. Her expertise is in the field of health and wellbeing of socially disadvantaged families and communities. Using participatory models of research, her work focuses on children, young people and their families’ experiences of health and social care provision, including self-care strategies for maintaining health and wellbeing, service development and wider public health agenda. Bertha’s research often focuses on structural processes that influence an individual’s health and wellbeing. Examples of her projects include: parents’ views on healthy eating practices, wellbeing of children and young people with a parent or close family member with a long-term condition and developing community nurses experiences of telephone triage and young people views on healthy lifestyle including sex education. Bertha’s work has resulted in collaborations with diverse teams, comprising of, voluntary sector organisations, academics, NHS Trusts and social care teams. Bertha has been involved in the development of numerous service improvement projects for health and social care providers. Bertha has expertise in qualitative research methodologies and mixed methods approaches. She has developed and led a number of postgraduate research programmes and supervised MSc and PhD research students. Prior to taking up her role at De Montfort University, Bertha worked in Leeds, Bradford, Bedfordshire and London. |

Dr Nadja is a clinical GP lecturer with interests in community health and global mental health in particular, though she is now focussing on UK/NHS issues too. She works part time as a GP and part time as an academic. |

Helen was born in Birmingham and qualified as a doctor in Liverpool. For the past 12 years, she has been a consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry in Liverpool, providing community mental health services to a population with high numbers of people seeking asylum and refugees. She has a special interest in this area and is part of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Asylum Seekers and Refugees Mental health Network (ASARN) and the Liverpool Asylum Seeker and Refugee Health Network (LARHN). |

Mr Durani Rapozo Complex Needs Coordinator Asylum Link Merseyside |
Durani Rapozo specialises in complex cases in his role as Complex Needs Coordinator for Asylum Link Merseyside, the biggest charity in Liverpool supporting asylum seekers. He is also a qualified Immigration Adviser(OISC Accredited) and supervising social worker. He supervises the social work team at Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit who give independent specialist legal advice and provide representation to people seeking entry or leave to remain in the UK. He also supervises the social work team at Revive, a charity that supports refugees and asylum seekers in Manchester. He is a Practice Educator and a PhD candidate at Chester University where he carries out research on ageing, the asylum process and social work. Durani is a visiting lecturer at Edgehill University, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool University and Salford University. Durani has worked with refugees and asylum seekers in the UK for 17 years. Durani is a refugee committed to ensuring services and commissioners provide the appropriate support to asylum seekers and refugees. Durani works very closely with the School of Nursing and Allied Health to share his expertise, ensuring that students are well informed on the changes to immigration policies. |

Clare Coombes Media Officer LJMU |
Clare Coombes is an author, editor and media officer. Her first novel Definitions was published in 2015 and she has been commended for short stories and novel extracts in a number of publications, competitions and academic journals. Clare has a Masters in Writing from Liverpool John Moores University, and some of her postgraduate teaching has included how to ‘pitch’ to agents and publishers and social media for writers. Additionally she has judged fiction competitions and spoken in schools and high profile events on writing as a career. She also offers an advisory and editorial service to writers and authors, many who have gone on to become published and win awards. Her new book, based on the experiences of refugees in the build up to the Second World War, will be published later this year.
