Support from LJMU’s Start-Up Hub

As an international student who has come to the UK looking for new and exciting opportunities, entrepreneurial thinking may come naturally to you. At LJMU, our Start-Up Hub supports current students and LJMU alumni (for up to five years after graduation) who are interested in starting their own business.

We love meeting students from all over the world to discuss their business ideas. As there are restrictions on business activity for student visa holders, we have a specifically-tailored service to help you explore options and ideas within the student visa rules.

The Start-up Hub have supported many international LJMU graduates to set up successful businesses in the UK.

Esma Esin Yildirim Eryilmaz, a 2024 MSc in Cosmetic Science graduate, runs her own business, Botanifolia, which makes and sells botanical wellbeing products.

The Start-up Hub provided Esma with guidance and valuable business insights when starting her business.

Tare, who is originally from Nigeria, completed an MA in International Journalism at LJMU. Tare first founded fashion brand Twin by Tare and later Unity in Design Global Network (UDGN), a social enterprise that works with minority and underrepresented creatives in the fashion industry through education and development support, industry placements and networking.

The LJMU Start-Up Hub helped Tare at the beginning of her journey in terms of access to mentors, guidance and financial funding.

Shehzad, who is originally from Pakistan, completed an MSc in International Business at LJMU. Shehzad is the Director of Progressive Group Services Ltd (PGS), an SIA-Approved Contractor providing professional security services across the UK.

The Start-Up Hub provided valuable guidance during the early stages, helping with understanding business planning, support available, networking opportunities and practical steps involved in starting a business in the UK.
