2030hub
The 2030hub is the world’s first UN Local2030 Hub, created to make cities and businesses stronger. Built around the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals) and as a certified member of the B Corporation movement, 2030hub inspire, cross-fertilise and support places and businesses wanting to accelerate positive impact.
They aim to eliminate poverty, make economic growth inclusive and sustainable and to restore ecosystems in cities. Their model was designed to holistically support the Local2030 initiative focusing on people, practice, policy influence, data and monitoring and financing sustainability.

The Sustainable Business Accelerator helps medium-sized businesses to learn about sustainability and get mentoring by the 2030hub and Lloyds Bank. Also, the 2030 hub host green events throughout Global Goals Week in September. This may lead to potential voluntary roles planning and working on global goals week.
Arete Zero Carbon
Arete Zero Carbon designs practical strategies for businesses so they can avoid future carbon taxes and safeguard their future.
Arete Zero Carbon aims to help organisations lead the way in their sector through correct planning, reaping the financial and environmental rewards it brings. With so much misinformation, they aim to provide businesses with knowledge to know what action to take and when.

Arete Zero Carbon is led by one of the UK’s most experienced Net Zero Carbon (NZC) strategists and the founder of the University of Liverpool Zero Carbon Research Initiative, Dr. Stephen Finnegan. They have helped numerous businesses ranging from SMEs to large corporation’s map and implement the changes they need to achieve Net Zero Carbon.
Arete Zero Carbon are currently recruiting for two student carbon data analysts, for 12-month placements, with plans to repeat this process of recruitment, annually. There is also the potential for shorter placements and work experience opportunities.
Avrenim
Avrenim focusses on low carbon, net zero, refurbishments of buildings and their energy requirements. Avrenim concentrate on a number of key areas which include; Consultancy Services and Design, Project Delivery, Facilities Management, Energy Services and 24/7 Helpdesk Services. Their main customer focus is large estate including healthcare, educational and local authority customers.

As a company committed to net zero Avrenim want to help customers to understand the net zero transition and its implications.

Bravissimo
Bravissimo is a fashion company that focuses on Bras and Bra-sized swimwear for D Cups and up. They aim to provide high quality, sustainable products that customers can enjoy for a long time. All factories are audited and accredited for full transparency to ensure that environmental, ethical and social needs of the people within the factories are upheld and protected. In spring 2020 they launched their digital magazine, reducing almost 1,000 tonnes of paper in two years.

Bravissimo also run a bra recycling scheme which reduces waste and can contribute towards charity. To reduce waste, they buy small amounts of stock and donate remaining stock to charity. They aim to use recycled fabrics and reuse all waste in their factories to make rugs, oven mitts and dusters which can be donated to charity.
Their Ecoedit range uses fully recycled materials. Bravissimo offer opportunities in various areas with a united aim to produce sustainable products.
DHL
DHL is a logistics company providing courier, package delivery and express mail service. They are committed to investing €7 billion until 2030 in clean operations across their hubs, fleet and final mile delivery solutions to reduce their emissions to under 29m tonnes by 2030, aligning with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). DHL are also aiming to improve carbon efficiency by 20% by 2025 compared to 2007 levels. DHL also offer various student placement and graduate opportunities.

Knauf Insulation are one of the fastest growing and most respected names in insulation worldwide. They are particularly focused on helping their customers to meet the increasing demand for energy efficiency and sustainability in buildings.

Knauf Insulation have a number of different projects in the area of Sustainability including examining biodiversity. Currently they don’t have any opportunities for students to become involved in specific green initiatives but potentially may have some in the future.
LJMU - Natural Capital Hub
Using a natural capital approach to decision-making means considering the value of local green and blue spaces and generating a flow of finance into projects that protect and restore them. Embedding a natural capital approach helps us to consider the benefits from nature in decision-making. These benefits are key to our wellbeing and economy as well as creating high quality places for communities.
The natural capital approach also provides routes to investment into nature which can support the creation, protection and enhancement of greenspaces and natural habitats. The development of the Natural Capital Hub provides a real opportunity to build capacity and literacy around natural capital. This is key to driving the green economy across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

LJMU - Eco-I NW
Eco-I North West offers businesses support to develop their ideas and innovations through world class academic expertise and cutting-edge technology. From collaborative research and development right through to delivering commercialisation strategies, Eco-I NW and LJMU can assist businesses to realise the low-carbon potential in products, processes and services.
Eco-I NW is part of the Industry Innovation Zone at LJMU, with experience collaborating with local businesses on innovation projects. In working with SMEs, they are focussed on growth which is better for business and better for the environment. The UK government has set ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions by 78% by 2035 and be net-zero by 2050.

Eco-I NW operates across multiple LEP areas, Liverpool City Region, Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria and Greater Manchester. Eco-I Northwest is a collaborative partnership between the universities of Liverpool John Moores, Lancaster, Central Lancashire, Cumbria, Liverpool and Manchester Metropolitan, and is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
LJMU - Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory
Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory creates innovative low carbon goods, processes and services, developed through collaborative partnerships between local companies in the Liverpool City Region and University researchers, students and academic staff.
They work with organisations to identify opportunities for low carbon development which will ultimately bring about economic and environmental benefits to both to businesses and the wider community.

Merseyside BioBank
Merseyside BioBank is the Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC), an environmental information service, for North Merseyside. They cover the authority districts of Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley and St Helens. As a member of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC) and part of the National Biodiversity Network (NBN), they collect and collate information on wildlife within our region, on a not-for-profit basis, and encourage and support the recording of wildlife.
The wildlife records they hold are available to help others better understand the biodiversity of North Merseyside.
Records shared with them are held alongside thousands of others which together form an evidence base that underpins conservation, decision-making, forward planning and development throughout Merseyside so helping to conserve and protect biodiversity in our rapidly developing region and beyond.

Opportunities include the Field Naturalist (Biological Recorder) role, where the volunteer records wildlife in North Merseyside either using a recording app, such as iNaturalist or iRecord, or with pen and paper.
The other two roles are Volunteer Biological Records Officer – Records Harvesting, which deals with processing wildlife records, and Volunteer Biological Records Officer – GIS, which includes digitising habitat maps. Although not currently recruiting for these roles, they will advertise both these positions and possible unpaid internships once there’s the capacity to do so.

Morpheus VR utilises VR technology to create a unique and comfortable education experience. They have 2 ongoing projects, an education and training platform in VR and a digital platform for the care industry.
The education and training platform allows anyone to learn from anywhere but also reduces waste associated with traditional learning. The digital platform for the care industry also enables the care industry to go paperless while improving efficiency and effective interaction.

Omega Life
Omega Life offers several different services that aim to transform the lives of everyone they interact with. This includes Children’s residential services. semi-independent accommodation and support within ‘training flats’, small group semi-independent living, step down provision, floating support and family support.

Ørsted is a renewable energy company who particularly focus on offshore & onshore wind, renewable hydrogen, energy storage and renescience. A decade ago they initiated a transformation from a fossil fuel-based energy company to a renewable energy company. Since then, they have reduced CO2 emissions by 86% since 2006 and will be completely coal-free by 2023.
