We encourage all UK-MUC members to host events and workshops around the UK-MUC thematic priorities. The Secretariat will be able to assist with event promotion and logistics for online workshops.

Benefits and Process of Degree Accreditation for Malaysian Universities

Staff Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshop

AI in Allied Health Workshop: A Network of Deep Medicine Experts for Global Health

At a time when medicine is increasingly driven by data and technology, AI can help restore time, empathy and human connection. Rather than replacing clinicians, AI can support better diagnosis and enable more personalised and preventative care. Deep medicine highlights the ethical responsibilities that come with these technologies, including transparency and bias. This workshop explored how AI can make healthcare not only more intelligent, but more humane.
Bridging Borders, Raising Leaders: Empowering Women in Global Higher Education Leadership Symposium 2026

University of Nottingham Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA and University of Nottingham UK, supported by the British Council, hosted a two-day symposium “Bridging Borders, Raising Leaders – Empowering Women in Global Higher Education Leadership Symposium 2026”.
The symposium brought together influential voices, policymakers, professional staff, academics, and emerging leaders for thought-provoking dialogues, as participants collectively reimagined what leadership must look like for the future of learning – one that is inclusive, innovative, and impact-driven.
British Council Higher Education Mission to Malaysia

The UK Higher Education Mission to Malaysia provided a comprehensive and forward-looking view of a system in rapid transition. Engagements in Kuala Lumpur, Putra Jaya and Johor illuminated Malaysia’s economic ambitions, evolving policy frameworks, talent demands, and institutional dynamism, while highlighting where UK partnerships can tangibly accelerate skills, research and innovation outcomes.
The ECR workshop convened academics and professional staff from UK and Malaysian institutions to explore the importance of international collaboration for research and career progression. Participants connected with peers, heard first-hand career stories from researchers with UK and Malaysian experience, and learned about the purpose and criteria of the UK-MUC Travel Grants, designed to support ECRs in taking their first steps toward meaningful international partnerships.
Transnational Education that Works – Best Practice Case Studies and Innovative Pathways Workshop

Integrating Real-World Projects into the Curriculum: A Case Study into Bridging Classroom to Business and Society Through Business Clinics and Project Experiences in UK and Malaysia

Crossing Borders Symposium and the KL Metal Mayhem Festival (UK Edition)

The Kuala Lumpur-based Black Label Production team launched the UK Edition of their KL Metal Mayhem Festival. Taking place at EBGBS on Seel Street in Liverpool on Saturday 4 October 2025, the festival featured some of the rising stars of heavy rock and metal music from within the North West region.
To complement the festival, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) hosted a unique academic and industry symposium on 3 October 2025. Crossing Borders: Metal Music Scenes and Extremity was a full day event featuring a range of metal music industry practitioners and academics from the field of metal music studies.

UK-MUC Research Working Group

This workshop was exclusive to UK-MUC Board Members with the aim of officially launching Phase 2 of the UK-MUC Research Network.
This week-long programme took place at Universiti Malaya and empowered 46 undergraduate students from the UK, Malaysia and China across disciplines to foster their entrepreneurial mindset.

From 15 to 16 June 2025, UMK, in strategic partnership with the Eureka Robotics Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, successfully hosted the PIE-WISE 2025 (Programme for Women in Sustainable and safE AI) at UMK City Campus. The programme champions women's participation in STEM, AI, Robotics and Entrepreneurship, while advancing academic and research networks across the UK, Malaysia and Indonesia.
PIE-HEAL Catalyst Grant Workshop

This two-day event brought together about 60 researchers, students and invited speakers from diverse backgrounds to spark interdisciplinary exchange, with a shared focus on community health, public engagement and technological innovation.
“Zero to AI Hero” Catalyst Grant Workshop

UK-Malaysia-Jiangsu (China) Higher Education Forum 2025

Against the backdrop of greater educational globalisation and the need to find innovative solutions to the challenges this brings, the British Council hosted a UK-Malaysia-Jiangsu (China) Higher Education Forum in 2025 with the theme of A Strategic Alliance for Global Excellence.
The Forum:
brought together the UK-Malaysia University Consortium and the UK-Jiangsu World Class University Consortium
built on existing diplomatic and partnership frameworks to create deeper, more responsive and adaptable partnerships between the UK, Malaysia and Jiangsu (China), enabling them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world
set the stage for sustainable HE partnerships to drive innovation and excellence in the region and beyond
During the Forum, representatives agreed on the Statement for Intent for the UK-Malaysia-Jiangsu (China) Higher Education Strategic Collaboration Initiative.
Prof Noon shared his thoughts on the disruptions caused by artificial intelligence (AI) in the sectors of Higher Education and skills development. His sharing was followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by Dr Michael Yap, Regional Managing Director, Coventry University Singapore Hub.
UK-MUC AGM 2025

ThinkTNE Forum 2024
ThinkTNE Forum 2024 is the British Council East Asia’s flagship event focusing on quality and excellence in transnational education. Leading education experts in the UK and East Asia will be engaged to discuss top priorities and challenges in the development and delivery of TNE.
This year’s theme Progressive Partnerships in Transnational Education follows on from the discussion at Going Global Conference 2022 and aims to continue to explore how we can encourage a move from purely ‘teaching franchises’ to institutional collaborations that progresses with ambitions and visions for students, academics and TNE management in-country.
This one-day forum will be held in-person at Sunway Resort Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

All ThinkTNE participants are invited to share your success stories via poster showcase which would be displayed at the ThinkTNE Forum 2024. The Poster Showcase should address one of the following three distinct themes:

UK-MUC and Education Malaysia London (EML) jointly hosted delegates from UK-MUC member institutions at the High Commission of Malaysia in London at a Celebratory Event to mark the one-year anniversary of the Consortium.
The Opening Remarks were given by His Excellency Dato' Zakri Jaafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia, who emphasized the importance of international collaborations and partnerships in the higher education sector and highlighted the long-standing relationship between the UK and Malaysia.
Professor Dhiya Al-Jumeily OBE, LJMU presented on behalf of the Consortium Secretariat, providing an overview of UK-MUC activities in the first twelve months. He also gave an update on the UK – Malaysia – ASEAN +3 Partnership Initiative: Catalyst Grants for Enhancing Graduate Employability.
Mr Lukman Zulkifly, Education Malaysia London (EML) outlined the role of EML as a point of reference for Information on Malaysia Higher Education Data for Market Intelligence, as a matchmaker to connect Malaysia and EU institutions for Higher Education collaborations, and as a facilitator to provide platforms for networking and marketing opportunities between the UK and Malaysia.
He also highlighted the Malaysian vision for the way forward to boost mobility programmes by increasing the number of joint awards/dual programmes, an in-country familiarisation programme for study abroad coordinators and repackaging existing mobility programmes to be more comprehensive and transformational.

The afternoon workshop was led by Prof. Madya Dr. Wan Zuhainis Binti Saad, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Dr Maria Garraffa, University of East Anglia.
Experiential Learning and Competency-Based Education Landscape (EXCEL) is a framework developed by the Academic Excellence Division, Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Malaysia aimed at transforming academic programs to produce lifelong learners, innovative adept entrepreneurs, creative practitioners and change-makers.
EXCEL aims to address the imminent issues of graduates’ skill mismatch and skill gaps. It is focused on providing learning experiences that are nested in the community and immersions in the industry. Through the implementation of this framework, students of higher education institutions will be given the opportunity to indulge in meaningful research and pave their own learning pathways.
This half day workshop is designed for educators, trainers, and anyone interested in exploring and implementing innovative teaching and learning approaches that focus on creating the transferable skills and competencies that are essential to success in higher education.
The inaugural Alumni UK Symposium will launch British Council Malaysia's 75th anniversary celebrations. It is an exclusive, invitation-only one-day event designed to create connections between UK alumni (graduates from UK universities) and to recognise their aspirations and collective potential. Themed “Bridging opportunities”, the symposium aims to provide a platform for UK alumni to interact and make connections, deepen professional relationships and to build a strong network of influencers for public good and long-term engagement with the UK.
Alumni UK Careers Fair will take place alongside our first Alumni UK Symposium on 25 February 2023. Showcasing about 20 employers, the Careers Fair will provide an outstanding opportunity for UK Alumni to explore exciting career options with diverse companies who are keen to engage our exceptionally talented and ambitious UK Alumni who have globally recognised qualifications from UK higher education institutions. This is a prime opportunity for UK Alumni who are at different stages in their professional lives and careers to consider expanding their opportunities in a wide range of fields, including business and management, engineering, technology, healthcare, economics, law, social work and sustainable development.
