Canvas
Canvas is your virtual learning environment that contains all your module information, including lecture materials, resources and assignment support. It is also the place where you will submit online assessments and receive feedback.

Skills for Success short online course
Want to feel more prepared for your studies? Do our ‘Skills for Success’ short online course on Canvas. It’s designed to help you build the key skills and knowledge you'll need for transitioning into higher education. You can expect:
- a simple introduction about how university learning works, including tips for independent study
- an overview of the different types of assessments you might be asked to do
- essential digital skills, including how to use tools and software like Microsoft Office, Adobe and Canva, plus a short introduction to AI and how to use it responsibly
- a walkthrough of Canvas, so you can confidently navigate our virtual learning environment
- practical guidance on managing your wellbeing whilst studying
The course helps you build strong foundations, so you can start your journey with confidence.
Academic Success
Once you begin your studies, you will be able to get dedicated support from the library’s Academic Success Team. They are based in both our Mount Pleasant Campus and City Campus Libraries.
This approachable, professional, and dedicated team is here to help you make the most of your studies. They can advise and support you with a range of academic and library skills from clarifying assessment expectations, essay writing and referencing to finding the resources you need. They also have specialist maths and statistics support, as well a team of peer mentors who are there to help you as you transition into your university studies.
Mount Pleasant Campus Library refurbishment 2027
From January to September 2027, our Mount Pleasant Campus Library will be closed for an exciting refurbishment. ‘Pop-up’ Library and Academic Success support will be available throughout this closure period and we’ll share more information about this in autumn 2026.
Check for any updates from your tutors
Your lecturers and tutors will direct your learning each week with recommended reading and writing activities. You will receive these updates via email or through Canvas. Don’t forget to check your Canvas notifications and LJMU Outlook email on a regular basis.
