About your course
The BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Apprenticeship supports the learner to achieve a degree whilst remaining in employment. It will provide an NMC approved, quality programme which will prepare you for the complex and demanding, but extremely rewarding arena of adult nursing.

Adult nurses care for adults in a range of different settings. On the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) degree apprenticeship, you will gain the skills, experience and confidence to be an effective healthcare professional whilst you are in employment.
The programme is delivered over 37 months and is full time.
You will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods that will prepare you for practice such as presentations, essays, professional conversations, exams and be assessed in clinical practice. This will enable you to achieve across a range of assessment styles. You will have access to a variety of digital resources to support your learning and wider experience.
On successful completion of the programme, you will obtain an Honours Degree and will be able to register with the NMC as an adult nurse.
This apprenticeship programme is aligned and mapped against the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IFATE) Registered Nurse Degree standard ST0781 (IFATE, 2018) and is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
To apply for this course, you must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a healthcare setting in England that support the apprenticeship. New employers must meet the university’s due diligence checks and applicants must meet the requirements for apprenticeship funding.

The module will consider the legal and ethical frameworks underpinning practice, as well as how to care for yourself and others.
Professional Values in Nursing

This module will develop your understanding of the values and behaviours that are expected in nursing and to explore how the evidence base is used to underpin nursing practice, considering the provision of care in a non discriminatory manner.
Person Centred Nursing Care

This module will facilitate you to understand key anatomy and physiology across the lifespan. The module will explore the impact of medicines, develop your understanding of pharmacology, and how these link to your ability to deliver effective person centred care.

Your Learning Experience
Excellent facilities and learning resources
The programme utilises a variety of teaching and learning approaches that are designed to inspire you and build your confidence as an apprentice nurse. These include lectures, seminars, group work activities, simulation and tutorials.
The range of learning and teaching approaches used the programme aim to develop and foster your independence as you acquire the knowledge and skills to practice. You will:
- Develop your knowledge through supported on-the-job learning
- All learning activity will contribute towards the development of the Knowledge Skills and Behaviours (KSB’s)
- Consolidate learning in the practice, whilst being supported and assessed by practice supervisors and assessors and academic assessors as per the requirements of the NMC Standards for Supervision and Assessment (2023)
You will commence your course with a timetabled induction period; this will support you to be part of a community of learners. The importance of group support and the availability of a range of university-wide support services for all apprentice learners will ensure that you are aware of the diverse range of support available.
You will have access to the programme team, Personal Tutors, Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors, Academic Assessors, Cohort Leads and Lecturers in Practice Learning for guidance throughout the course of your programme. Working together, in their distinct roles this team provide support with open channels of communication, to enable you to realise your goals.
Dedicated personal tutor, plus study skills support
All apprentice learners will commence their programme of study with a timetabled induction period. This will help you settle into your apprentice learner community at the university.
As soon as you enrol at LJMU, you will be assigned your own personal tutor. Your tutor will give you feedback on how well you are progressing with your studies and encourage you to plan for your educational and career development. You will meet with your tutor and workplace assessor for a tripartite progress review a minimum of four times per year. This will allow you to seek support, set personalised goals and review your progress.
There are a wide variety of support services for learners open to all. They include health and wellbeing services, learning support and student futures who can support your transition into employability and professional life.
LJMU has a range of support mechanisms that support apprentice learners in making the transition to higher education and subsequently across academic levels of study. We encourage students to take advantage of the study skills support available through The Library. This covers everything from how to find the books or journals you need, through to the correct way of referencing them in your assignments.
Assessment varies depending on the modules you choose, but will usually include a combination of exams and coursework.
Whilst on this course your knowledge and skills with be assessed each year through written work, exams, presentations in addition to assessment in practice. The assessment of your theoretical modules will occur at the end of each module.
Your assessment in practice will include feedback and review of your skills by experienced nurses.
The assessments for each module have been designed to align with the learning outcomes and be authentic to nursing practice. This means that assessments will require you to use the same competencies, or combinations of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that you will need to apply in your professional life.
Where you will study
Part of the City Campus, the School of Nursing and Advanced Practice is based in the Tithebarn Building, adjoining the City Campus Library, which is open seven days a week. In addition to specialist clinical practice suite facilities, you will find high quality seminar rooms, IT suites and lecture theatres, plus a café and social spaces.
Course tutors
Sharon has been in post at LJMU since October 2020 and a registered nurse from 05.2005. Sharon has worked in a variety settings including Stroke rehabilitation, Coronary Care Unit, Acute Medical Unit and General Practice. Roles have included junior/ senior nurse, deputy ward manager, nurse manager. Sharon came to LJMU to complete her masters in advanced healthcare practice and then worked as an ANP before joining LJMU as a lecturer.
Sharon become programme leader following involvement with the trainee nursing associate programme at LJMU, her interests include widening participation and support for learners. She enjoys teaching and running the apprentice workshop days as well as actively engaging with the employers to support learners.

Employability and career development
Your preparation for working as a Registered Nurse whilst on this programme, allows you to develop your career progression whilst undertaking full time work within a healthcare environment. Increasing integration of health and social care services will require nurses to negotiate boundaries and play a proactive role in interdisciplinary teams.
Career opportunities within Health and Social Care are varied and can lead to jobs in the NHS and the private, independent and voluntary sector. As registrants progress through their career there may be opportunities in the growing number of nurse specialist posts in some clinical areas too. You may choose to stay with your current employer and progress through your organisation. Some graduates prefer to pursue careers in teaching, research or management, or continue their studies with a Master’s programme.

Tuition fees and funding
Fees
Tuition fees for home students beginning their studies in September 2026 will be £9,790 for the 2026/27 academic year, subject to Parliamentary approval.
In England and Wales, tuition fees for home undergraduate students are set in accordance with the Government’s regulated fee cap. The Government has confirmed that this cap will be £9,790 for 2026/27 and £10,050 for 2027/28, in both cases subject to Parliamentary approval.
The Government has also stated that from the 2028/29 academic year onwards, the fee cap will be adjusted annually in line with inflation. As a result, tuition fees in future years may increase accordingly. We will provide confirmation of any changes as early as possible in advance of each academic year.
The fees quoted above cover registration, tuition, supervision, assessment and examinations as well as library membership and student IT support with access to printed, multimedia and digital resources including programme-appropriate software and on campus Wi-Fi.

Evidence of proof of equivalency from UK ENIC can be used where an individual has an international qualification. To access the apprenticeship, the individual must have a valid and eligible status. Non-UK nationals are eligible for funding if they have been resident in the UK for at least the previous three year period on the first day of the apprenticeship.
